저는 아들이 한국 리틀리그 연맹(LLF)에서 5년간 뛰었던 학부모입니다. 그동안 코치진의 지식과 헌신 덕분에 대체로 즐거운 시간을 보냈습니다. 하지만 올해는 LLF 관계자들(LLF 행정부, 코치, 학부모) 모두의 리더십 부재로 우리 아이들이 피해를 보고 있습니다.
제 아들 팀뿐 아니라 다른 단체에서도 국제 대회 출전을 꿈꾸며 열심히 훈련하는 선수들이 많습니다. 그런데 최근 한국이 국제 대회에 불참하기로 결정하면서 이 선수들에게 큰 실망감을 안겨주었습니다. 이 나이는 선수들에게 단 한 번뿐인 소중한 기회입니다. 한국 대표팀 14자리를 차지하기 위해 정말 열심히 노력해 왔는데, 패배를 두려워하고 체면을 중시하는 누군가의 결정으로 그 기회를 잃게 되었습니다. 우리 아이들에게 이런 일이 벌어지는 것이 부당하다고 생각하지 않으십니까? 우리 야구 단체가 지향해야 할 모든 가치에 어긋나는 일이라고 생각하지 않으십니까? 그들은 프로 선수들이 아니라 어린 선수들입니다.
한국 야구 연맹(LLF)은 U15 국제 대회를 개최하면서도 참가팀을 제공하지 않기로 했습니다. 이는 한국 야구 연맹뿐 아니라 국제 사회에서 한국 전체의 명예를 실추시키는 행위입니다. 어느 나라가 해외 관광객들에게 돈을 쓰라고 요청하면서 정작 참가팀조차 제공하지 않는 걸까요? 앞서 언급한 관계자들은 LLF 사무국에 이 문제에 대한 관심을 촉구하고, LLF의 결정을 철회하도록 강력히 요구해야 합니다. LLF 사무국이 우리 아이들을 위해 마땅히 해야 할 일을 하지 않는다면, 코치와 학부모들이 나서서 목소리를 내야 합니다. 모든 분들이 LLF 사무국에 연락하여 2026년 아시아태평양 지역 주니어리그 대회에 참가할 U15 대표팀을 반드시 구성하도록 요구해 주시기를 간곡히 부탁드립니다. 한국의 명예를 지키고, 우리 아이들의 꿈을 지켜줍시다.
U15 Junior League International Play
I am a parent whose son has played in the Korean Little League Federation (LLF) for 5 years. Most of that time has been great, with knowledgeable and caring coaches. However, this year the lack of leadership from all stakeholders (LLF administration, coaches and parents) in the LLF is failing our children.
I know several players from my son’s team and other organizations who train very hard in hopes of competing on an international level. The recent decision for Korea not to participate in the international tournament has come as a great disappointment to these players. The players are only this age once; they have worked extremely hard to earn an opportunity to compete for the 14 spots to represent Korea. Now, because somebody who is worried about losing and wants to save face, the player will not be given the opportunity to participate. Does anybody else feel like this is a travesty for our children? Does anybody else feel like this goes against everything our baseball organization is supposed to be about? They are kids, not professionals.
The Korean LLF will host the U15 International Tournament, but Will Not provide a team to participate in the tournament. That is a disgrace, not only for the Korean LLF but for the entire country of Korea, on an international level. What other country would ask international travelers to come and spend their money, but not have the decency to even provide a team? The above-mentioned stakeholders need to demand the administration’s attention to this matter and demand that they reverse their decision. If the LLF administration is not going to do what is right for our children, the coaches and parents must be the leaders who stand up and demand it. I implore everybody to contact the administration to mandate the development of a U15 team to compete in the 2026 Junior League Baseball Asia-Pacific Region Tournament. Save Korea’s dignity, save our children’s dreams.
